Days 180 - 182 Titusville - Thomasville - Birmingham - Barber Vintage Motorsport Museum - Birmingham

Kennedy Space Center was really interesting but on Monday morning it was time to get going. My next target was Thomasville, Georgia where Josh had promised to host me with his family. Josh had made a nice trip across the country all the way to Prudhoe Bay last summer with his father and father-in-law. I couldn't make a long trip in that kind of group.

Actually I've noticed I could travel any long distances with practically nobody. Of course it's nice to have company, help and support especially if something goes wrong. But when traveling alone it's so easy to make plans and alter those plans as soon as you get new info or ideas. So far the best tips and hints I've got from my hosts. You just cannot find them by reading the map.

The route from Titusville to Thomasville offered absolutely nothing to see. Straight flat roads of Florida. Fields, swamps, some lakes and a lot of smaller and bigger towns and villages.

But getting northwest from Thomasville made a huge difference. I began to feel like home as soon as I got rid of the flat environment. Hills and curves. Even something to see, but... It rained half of the way. Even though I had sunshine for 100 miles I ended up in a motel soaking wet.

My jacket is not waterproof anymore and that hard rain seemed to be too much for the waterproof liner of my trousers too. My boots began to leak in Australia. Maybe using them in all possible terrain I could have found has been too big effort to Haix. But they've really earned their price.

My Wednesday's program was to visit Barber Vintage Motorsport Museum. The biggest museum of motorcycles and sport cars in the world. Located little east of Birmingham, Alabama it's in a bit too cold place during winter but...

A full size race track with a racing school of course Porsche 911's.

Five floors of motorcycles and dozens of cars. Count of bikes 1652 today. About 900 on the show. Plus a floor with fully equipped shop for restoration of the bikes. I managed to meet one of the mechanics who took me for a tour in the restricted area. They have everything there. Even water cutter and CNC-machines.

Kawasaki with a V12 engine. How crazy is that?

The first bike ever donated to the museum. A real piece of art.

All the bikes and cars run. Some are completely restored, some are "snapshots of time" with their own history

Easy rider

Replica of probably the first motorcycle ever made by Daimler

Hydraulic lift. An extremely long hydraulic cylinder.

Super Blackbird.

The fastest bike in the world they say

Who wants a electric bicycle when ones with real engine were available back in the 50's.

Sorry my Finnish:"sivuvaunu-zundapp. Tuttu korkkareista..."
