Days 43-44 Vladivostok-Tokyo
Thursday was my last day in Russia. Shipping agent Yuri was going to the airport so he drove me there. I had a very interesting discussion with him about history, communism and business.
I was at the airport a bit early but it didn't matter. I couldn't have slept any more anyhow. So I sat in a cafe and wrote the previous blog entry.
I was surprised how small Vladivostok airport is. Only three gates for international flights. Maybe four or five for domestics.
In time I got into the plane and was on my way to Tokyo. Only two hour flight to completely different world. In Russia everything is so relaxed and kind of easy. In Japan everything seems so exact and efficient. People are extremely polite. It even seems kind of unreal.
I managed to find a way out of the airport and to the train. Changing to another line was also surprisingly easy. Walking from Oji station took only few minutes and I checked in to Tokyo Guest House Oji.
After traveling all day and having a little stress of facing new things I was way too tired to do anything or go anywhere. I ate in the hostel restaurant and went to bed.
I started my Friday with a walk nearby. I wanted to see the surroundings of the hostel. Actually there was not much to see. Small restaurants, pharmacies, real estate agents and small shops. And "Amusement parks" - i.e. places to play some sort of video games. It seems Japanese really love games and anime.
I took a train to Akihabara - Electronic Town. It's an area filled with shops selling everything electric. Computers, phones, cameras, home equipment, whatever you can and cannot imagine. A lot of things you can easily live without...
In the afternoon I met Joseph there. He stayed in a same hostel for couple of days in Vladivostok. He needed to buy a computer. So we went through couple of shops until he found a suitable second hand IBM.
Soon after that I started heading back to the hostel. I got into the train with a million Japanese. The platform guard literally pushed the last ones in.
After eating in KFC I got to hostel and quite soon fell asleep. I think I just visited KFC three times at the same time. The first, the last and the only. Of course the chicken was good but it's so difficult and messy to eat that I think I'll stick with other possibilities which are plenty.
