Day 45 Tokyo
Saturday. Easy morning. Someone left from the dorm at around seven so I woke up and couldn't sleep anymore. But I stayed in bed until 9:30 and got to breakfast downstairs. Some bread, soup and tea made miracles.
I did some planning in the morning about my future trip and even booked a room in one city for couple of days. I also tried to find out what there is to see in Tokyo. At least there's a lot of museums (blaah), even one for stamps nearby. I decided to go again to Akihabara and then to see the Imperial Palace.
I was a lot nicer to travel in a train on Saturday morning. Of course there were a lot of people but not as a rush. I think there's always people in these local trains. After walking around in Akihabara for a while I bought a new ticket to Tokyo main station. I don't know how old the main station is but compared to the other buildings it is really old. If I had to guess I'd say something like 1850.
The reason I drove to the main station was that I wanted to see the imperial palace. I even took my real camera out of the back for this occasion. It rained - a lot! And what did I find when approaching the palace. A gate with guards. No imperial palace for me, it seemed.
So I decided to walk for a while in downtown Tokyo and then head back to the hostel.
Few observations about Japan:
First of all one thing stands out: everywhere is clean and tidy. I suppose littering is fined quite hard so people really take all the garbage to bins.
Secondly: I've seen nobody smoking in the street. There is no signs forbidding it but apparently the Japanese don't smoke much. I found out that there are some pubs around where people tend to go smoking.
Thirdly: Japanese really have got used to constant rain. There are holders and different kinds of stands to umbrellas in most of the places - even in McDonald's tables.
