Day 23 Ulaanbaatar

28065 – 28165 100 km

The morning started with some maintenance. Well, before that I got my laundry and hanged it to dry. I’m staying in Oasis Guest House which is very popular among travelers. Next building is a repair shop operated by a Japanese guy. I got my rear tire turned, new rear wheel bearings installed and oils changed. The repair man said I shoudn’t adjust the fuel mixture. We are now quite high and that’s why the engine is running rich. It should ease when I get near sea level. I will see that in Vladivostok. If Annie still smokes like diesel I’ll find a repair shop there to do the adjustment.

After Annie’s maintenance I drove to the huge Chingis Khan statue with Eddie. I just wanted to see that. And it really was HUGE! The small black spots over the horse’s head are humans. We didn’t go in the museum underneath the statue. It would have been useless to pay 8500 for seeing mainly photos.

After our way back we both wondered where do these people get their driving licences. The traffic is (mildly said) wild.

I like this Oasis. There’s a couple of shared rooms to stay, couple of gers outside and a security guard persent all the time to watch over the yard. You can stay in your car, tent or whatever. Kitchen is open until 18:30 and everyone can eat in a large living/dining room. Talk to each other. Share experiences etc. Yesterday evening Eddie and XXX from Holland watched the last episode of Game of Thrones. Now I have seen at least few minutes of GoT.

But tomorrow morning we intend to start early towards Russia. The Swiss hopefully gets his bike ready before that. It’s a bit under construction… Last time I visited the garage they were changing the rear fork bearings.

I noticed this kind fence nearby. I wonder what Finnish authorities would say if I built a fence like that.
