Days 80-82 Kuala Lumpur - Singapore

On Saturday it was time to leave Kuala Lumpur behind. Getting to the airport was extremely easy with monorail and KLIA Xpress train. At the airport I met an Australian guy who had missed his flight a week earlier and decided to stay for another week in KL. Not a bad decision I'd say. The flight (again at the emergency exit seat) was about 45 minutes so I definitely had no time to get bored.

Singapore - the pearl of the Java Sea! Business center of the area and the southernmost point of continental Asia. Busy, crowded and known for very strict laws about chewing gum. At the same time it's relaxed, friendly and beautiful city.

Getting to the city from the airport took about half an hour with a normal subway and easiest way was to buy a normal MRT card for 10$ which already included 5$ worth of traveling. My hostel was in Chinatown and it was a perfect location for me as I wanted to as much as possible with as little money as possible.

In the first evening I went to see Marina Bay. Huge and widely known hotel/mall complex.


My Sunday started in the same place. After which I got back to the hostel and took a way too long nap. In the evening I met Mirco and Jane, a girl he had met here. We went to see the light shows of Marina Bay and Marina Park. The photos don't give any justice for them.

Waking up late on Monday felt good after being up so late in the evening. And besides it was raining. By the time I finally got out of bed and out of hostel the rain had stopped and I could walk to Fort Canning Park nearby. There was a nice paved track to walk with sings telling about the history of Singapore.










Afterwards I met Mirco again and we went to and island called Sentosa. A very touristry place of Universal Studios and beaches. It is the southernmost point of continental Asia and really worth seeing.









During our stay there Mirco ordered us tickets to Night Safari which is a part of Singapore Zoo. It includes an animal show Night Creatures and and tram ride in the zoo. Too bad it was way too dark to take photos. Coming back from the zoo got so late that the subway lines stopped already. I had to take a taxi from some station but it was nice. I had a great chat with the driver. And before that I met a very helpful local couple at the subway who pointed me to the right direction to find the taxi.

Days 137 - 140 Toronto (- Guyra) - Toronto - Sydney - Los Angeles

Sunday was unbelievably hard day. We started in the morning with Duncan to get the bike from Guyra. It was hit already then! And it got worse during the day. A lot worse! In that heat air conditioning would have been great. In addition to physical hardness the day was mentally hard as seeing the bike brought back the situation I fell. Let's see what it feels when I get on a bike again. John from Guyra Towing gave to give us the bike. Together we lifted it on the trailer and secured (yes, with ropes) it. We were extremely lucky that Annie was short enough to fit in without removing front wheel. And of we went to Toronto with no other trouble than the heat. Ivan from Bikes Abroad has a deal with a company called Pro Bike in Sydney. They pack customer's bikes in old BMW crates and deliver the bikes to the airport or harbour depending on the situation. Days 173 - 176 Pensacola - Perry - Lake Wales - Florida City

It was raining in the morning when I was about to get on the road in Pensacola. I attached the waterproof liner in my trousers - which turned out to be a mistake. No rain the whole day. I'm starting to believe that the waterproof liner is like an umbrella. Whenever you have it installed it won't rain. But leave it of and you'll definitely get wet. I've read a lot of discussions about best gear available. For me the best choice seems to be (based on my experience so far) some sort of easily vented trousers with detachable thermal liner and and a jacket equipped similarly. When it rains it's easy to wear external rain gear on top. Change of temperature isn't usually so dramatic during the day so installing thermal liners for the whole day isn't a problem. Back to the point. I followed the coast from Pensacola as much as possible. I even paid $1 toll to get to Pensacola beach. It was worth seeing. A bit wet sand felt and looked like snow. T...

Days 150 - 152 Flagstaff - Tucson - El Paso - Terlingua Ghost Town

I had planned to leave Flagstaff early in the morning. I woke up at around 6:30 and looked out of the window. No chance for early take off. It was dark and according to my phone way too cold. Around -4°C. So I ate my breakfast (couple of slices of pizza leftovers from previous evening) and packed my gear without any rush. So at around 8 it was light and only -2°C. After a while I was riding in the middle of snow. That reminded me of Finnish summer. The road through state park was lovely. Beautiful sceneries, pine trees, sunshine and snow. Fortunately not on the road. That would have been a bit too difficult for me. I managed to stay off the highways almost all the way to Tucson where I had a tent space place settled.
