Days 46-48 Tokyo - Bangkok
Sunday was the laziest day in a while. It rained and they even had given a typhoon warning to Tokyo. My original plan was to go to Shinjuku, which is said to be the busiest shopping area in Tokyo. But the ticket office guy said it is possible that some of the trains will be cancelled due the typhoon. So I decided to stay near the hostel. I took a walk in a park nearby but got way too wet. It rained rally hard and it was windy so that umbrella didn't help much.
The rest of the day I spent mostly looking at movies and chatting with the guy in the reception. He will start working at Yamaha soon as a salesman. Good job but wrong brand.
Monday opened up sunny. Very sunny and warm. I would describe the weather perfect. About 18 degrees and light wind. How about the typhoon? I didn't even notice it during the night. I took a Tokyo Metro to Shinjuku. I could have gone there with train and it would have been a little cheaper but I wanted to try the subway. Well, it didn't vary much from the train. The ride was smooth, efficient and silent. With one change I got to Shinjuku.
I should have gone there in the evening. I believe the lights would have been great. There were so much signs and adverts in multiple colors. It felt hard to even be there in that overwhelming amount of advertising. Restaurants, shops, clubs, bars... Whatever you can imagine. Tokyo's famous red light district is also near but as I was there at day time I actually didn't really notice it from anything else than the adverts of striptease clubs. They say it's an interesting place during the night.
On Monday I also had to pack everything. I knew I had an early start on Tuesday morning. Wake up at 5:30. To the rain at 6:00 and to Skyline at 6:25. So I left Shinjuku behind and got back to the Hostel.
And in the morning I started my journey towards Bangkok. Getting the train ticket from the vendor was easier than I thought and I got to the airport in time. In tome to stand in line for a way too long.
I just hate the Japanese accuracy. They wanted to scale my bag pack. Did they really think I would take too heavy bag pack to the plane? Me? Ok. Actually I tried. The limit was 7 kg and my bag scaled 10,3 kg. It had to go to the cargo. And it damn cost me 6500 YEN! What can you do nothing but pay...
At least they gave me a place next to emergency exit. I had enough room for my legs. But they didn't serve anything to eat or even drink. No wonder the flight was so cheap.
Finally I got to Bangkok. Holy crap it was hot. Pilot announced it was "32 degrees above zero" and I really could feel it the same moment I got out of the plane. Luckily the airport itself was air-conditioned and reasonably fast. I was a bit worried about the immigration as I should have had a booking out of Thailand within 30 days of arrival, which I didn't have. I only had a booking departing from Singapore in 28th of November. But they didn't ask a thing. Just stamped my passport and on I went. I got my back and got out of the airport.
Originally I had planned using public transportation to get to the hotel but pretty soon I realized it's way too difficult to use the bus. So I took a taxi. Paying 400 BHT + tolls 120 BHT wasn't a bad prize.
I got to the hotel, got in to my room and felt exhausted. I just had to get something to eat. I walked out and ate some chicken and some beef in the street kitchen. Street food as they say. It was so good. But in that hunger I could have eaten almost anything.
After being awake quite long and flown almost 7 hours I thought I'd fall asleep pretty soon. But apparently I was bit too shaky and nervous so it was almost midnight when I finally fell asleep.
